Invitation to Attend

Co-convenors Pauline Cain and Mary Mooney, invite Drama Educators an Practitioners to come to the harbour city, Sydney, in September/October 2006 for the Drama Australia Conference at NIDA.  We are looking forward to your participation and we are sure that you and your colleagues will enjoy an exciting and engaging conference.

The focus for Drama NSW this year is the National Drama Conference in September/October and we are pleased to be hosting this event for Drama Australia.  Turning the Tides is the theme of the conference and we hope to highlight this theme through reflections on practice, performance, research, policy and strengthening communities.

To start the Conference with a splash you are invited on Friday 30th September to a function on the rooftop terrace of Saint Aloysius’ College at Milson’s Point.  Soak in the fabulous view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Sydney boasts a number of well known theatre companies and we will organise tickets for a number of shows for the Saturday evening.  We will coordinate this with dinner in a nearby restaurant. The conference dinner at the Coogee Bay Hotel on the Sunday evening should also be a great evening with views of Coogee Beach and close to conference accomodation.

Come and join us in our beautiful city on the harbour and 'turn the tides' with us.

SYDNEY…….
When you come to Sydney……..
You will discover it’s sunny, sophisticated and cultural…….
Sydney basks in its worldwide recognition as the shining star of the southern hemisphere. The white-sailed Sydney Opera House, caught mid-billow over the waters of Sydney Cove, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are the pride and joy, but there's far, far more on offer. Light, bright, cheerful and colourful - Sydney style has an exuberant quality defined by the city's climate, magnificent harbour, luxuriant hinterland and superb beaches. Voluptuous rather than sharp-edged, gorgeous rather than chic, the New South Wales capital dazzles with personality.

Sydney's sparkling harbour is the jewel in the city's crown. It's flanked by golden beaches and bushland, and is bisected by one of the most famous bridges in the world. Islands sprinkle its waters, and it's crisscrossed by all manner of craft, from water taxis and yachts to tour boats and ferries - sparkling both day and night - and the city reflects the Australian personality - a bit brash, a bit cheeky but warm, outgoing and friendly. And it knows how to party! There is something for every visitor - first class hotels, restaurants, beaches, theatre, sight seeing, nightlife and its overall vibrancy.

Sydney offers everything from performances at the Opera House to street shows and theatres, making it one of the world's hot spots for visual and performing arts. Opera, ballet, modern dance and local and international theatre are all catered for. You can even take in a show while cruising on the harbour.
